Halloween BPAL update is up! Yay! Here's what I have my eye on this year: Bite Me: Croquembouche with almond silk and a drizzle of caramel. Lambs-wool: A popular holy day beverage in 18th century Ireland: roasted apples mashed into warmed milk and ale, with nutmeg, sugar, ginger, and clove. Suck it: Black cherry brandy. Pumpkin Patch 2009: Pumpkin Patch I: Pumpkin, almond, brown musk, and honey. Pumpkin Patch V: Pumpkin, chocolate, coffee bean, vanilla bean, and hazelnut. and maybe: Feeding the Dead: A barrel of beer, a pyramid of cakes, and three sticks of incense. Pomona: Azaroles, nuts, and apple blossoms with red apple pulp, mulberry, blackberry, and pomegranate juice. Tags: bpal

The Halloween update is up! Here are the things that interest me: ALL SOULS 2007 A day of remembrance and intercession. Without the prayers and sacrifices of their families and loved ones, the faithful departed may not be cleansed of their venal sins, and thereby cannot attain beatific vision. On November 2nd, prayers are sung and offerings are made to aid lost souls in transcending purgatory. An incense blend that invokes the higher qualities of mercy and compassion, mingled with the soft, sugared currant scent of offertory soul cakes. THE PERILOUS PARLOR A memory of pleasure passed. A ghostly rendezvous, delight beyond death. Faint echoes of laughter and the distorted music of a harp drift by, along with the scent of soft white pear and sweet vanilla. Pumpkins are available individually! There is a new patch. PUMPKIN I Pumpkin with pear, white wine grapes, and jasmine-laced tea. PUMPKIN III Pumpkin with white chocolate, caramel, pomegranate, and cream. PUMPKIN V Pumpkin with benzoin, bourbon vanilla, lemon peel, neroli, blood orange, and red ginger. SCHRODINGER'S CAT One can even set up quite ridiculous cases. A cat is penned up in a steel chamber, along with the following diabolical device (which must be secured against direct interference by the cat): in a Geiger counter there is a tiny bit of radioactive substance, so small that perhaps in the course of one hour one of the atoms decays, but also, with equal probability, perhaps none; if it happens, the counter tube discharges and through a relay releases a hammer which shatters a small flask of hydrocyanic acid. If one has left this entire system to itself for an hour, one would say that the cat still lives if meanwhile no atom has decayed. The first atomic decay would have poisoned it. The Psi function for the entire system would express this by having in it the living and the dead cat (pardon the expression) mixed or smeared out in equal parts. It is typical of these cases that an indeterminacy originally restricted to the atomic domain becomes transformed into macroscopic indeterminacy, which can then be resolved by direct observation. That prevents us from so naively accepting as valid a "blurred model" for representing reality. In itself it would not embody anything unclear or contradictory. There is a difference between a shaky or out-of-focus photograph and a snapshot of clouds and fog banks. A paradoxical scent experiment! – tangerine, sugared lime, pink grapefruit, oakmoss, lavender, zdravetz, and chocolate peppermint. No cats were mistreated during the formulation of this paradox, or in the process of creating this perfume. Check the site for the full update.Tags: bpal

Initially, coconut rum and some sort of sweet syrup. Then went almost instantly... perfume-y I dont know how to describe that. It's almost a flower ish scent. Maybe somehting like coconut and some sort of white flower or planty smell. something kind of fresh and clean. It reminds me of somehting but I'm not sure what. It has the same coconut that Lush stuff does (like coolaulin but this is a definitely sweeter something in addition to the coconut than coolaulin has). This seems like osmething that woudl be nice to use when I was on a coconut streak in the shower- trichomania, coolaulion, I shoudl coco and then this when I come out. Would be nice I think. So far, I think this goes in the keep pile. BPAL says: The Spirit of the Divine Messenger, the Lord of the Crossroads, He Who Owns All Doors and Roads in this World. He is the intermediary between the Orishas and mankind, and stands at the intersection of humanity and the Divine. He opens all paths of communication, both mundane and Heavenly. His ofrenda contains coconut, tobacco and sweet, sugared rum. Tags: bpal

Initially - chocolate and leather. Then it starts to have a touch of that... old icky perfume smell that some of them seem to have on me. I don't have a good description for what that means exactly. I might be imagining it on this one though. It has a sharp smell. The chocolate is definitely underneath it. As though the room is filled with leather and wood and dirt... and in there is this tiniest hint of chocolate hidden somewhere. I think I would like to smell this on a guy. bpal says:Lord of the Smoking Mirror, god of sorcery, nighttime, darkness, beauty, war, heroic men, beautiful women, and all material concerns. Tezcatlipoca is the Master Magician, a trickster god and shapeshifter, governing all worldly matters, and is also the Great Tempter, seducing men into evil acts and subsequently punishing them for their transgressions. Deep cocoa laced with patchouli, leather armor, ritual incense, and a touch of Xochiquetzal’s flowers.

I will try these today, one on one wrist, one on the other Suspiro Initially: Floral, nice. I don't know my flowers that well, aside from flowers I know I like. These are flowers I'd like to smell though! I think, at least so far, that if I wanted to smell like flowers... this would be a good bouquet to smell like. I think flower scents of the perfumy sort tend to make me think of old ladies. I dont know if I want to smell like something that reminds me of an old lady. It is a nice small though and I keep coming back to my wrist, partly to see if it has changed yet and partly because it is nice to smell. It's starting to fade to a slightly powdery smell. I think I noticed this with the other florals too. Initially it's nice but it's that slightly dusty powdery smell that bothers me a little. This scent starts to fade fairly quickly I think but it's not fading too powdery. It's retaining the flower scent that I'm liking and it's just soft and kind of what I would think of as lady-like. It's something I'd imagine wearing in the day time dressed nicely and going out for lunch or tea or something. Not that that's necessarily me. Fades to a nice, soft floral. Not a bad thing. I think I'll have to get more opinions before I decide if I'll keep it. Final thoughts: This faded pretty quickly and I don't know if I want enough to smell like pretty flowers to bother keeping it. Chances are that if I dont absolutely love it I will not wear it. It's going in the sell pile. From the bpal site: A Latin word that means to sigh or draw a deep breath, that also suggests longing, desire, yearning, and a passionate wish. Ylang ylang with white plum, white orchid, jasmine, calla lily and lily of the valley.JesterInitially: I really like this. It smells very fruity. Like Koolaid Powder. The unsweetened kind. Perhaps Unsweetened Incrediberry Koolaid Powder. Maybe this wouldn't be appealing so much to others but I really think its nice! Maybe also reminds me of some sort of fruit hard candy or some sort of sour flavored Bubblicious. nothing bubble gummy in scent but one of those sour flavors that just has bubble gum as its base but doesnt taste of it. Softens a little as it starts to warm. Keeps the same scent though. Fades to the same scent only lighter. It's rare for a scent to stay the same all the way through on me. This one seems to have though. I believe I'll keep it. from the bpal site: Huckleberry and red currant with the incisive bite of neroli.Tags: bpal Currently hearing: Big Daddy - Once In A Lifetime (Radio Paradise)

ok my bpal girlies (and guys?) what can you recommend that's sweet and foody, I'm not as big on the cinnamon smells so much but I don't hate them. Mostly just sweet. I'm ordering a bottle of Sugar Cookie and a bottle of Gluttony (which I tried in an imp on my last order and just totally fell in love with). And I think I'm going to request an imp of Bliss. The sweeter the better. I like to smell like things I would like to eat. Though I will admit that Lush's pink creamy candy scented stuff sickens me. I seriously almost gagged when I smelled the Snow Fairy shower gel. Blech. ETA a comment I left in reply to a comment of ophelia's: I like vanilla (my main 'me' scent is a vanilla bean oil from global scents that I get from the renaissance festival every year that smells like vanilla and incense to me), chocolate, coffee, hazelnut, buttery creamy scents, frosting, cookies, cake, caramel, butterscotch, incense and things that smell like baked good variations on those. I also love the smell of Lush's Honey I Washed the Kids/Soft Coeur/Honey Bee/Ma Bar Foody and sweet but more the sickly vanilla-choco-caramel-butter-nuts variety Come to think of it, that's what I like to eat too! EndymionIn the bottle and initially on the skin this smells totally of roses. Right after its on my skin it smells of roses still with some pear, very similar to the Victoria's Secret pear scent. It's sweet floral but I worry since it smells pretty strongly of rose, rose stuff usually ends up smelling like soap on me. Later it smells like something I don't know. Sweet, dusty, flowery... but not a flower scent that I recognize. Almost a hint of baby powder. I dont know if I like it. It's not *bad* I guess... it's more that I don't know if I'd like to smell like it. The site description: "Selune, the Moon Goddess, fell in love with a beautiful shepherd named Endymion. She appealed to Zeus, asking him to cast Endymion into everlasting slumber so that she could be with him for all eternity. Her wish was granted, and every night the Goddess visited her love as he slept. A sweet, wistful blend of d'Anjou pear, Lily of the Valley, bois du rose and white musk."Also, my notes on the Gluttony yesterday: Incensy and sweet from start to finish. Starts out smelling like the hazelnut coffee I buy (+incense), then smells a little like cinnamon apple (+incense) and ends smelling like chocolate (+incense). I really dig it. The site description: "Thick, sugared and bloated with sweetness. Dark chocolate, vanilla, buttercream, and hops with pralines, hazelnut, toffee and caramel."Tags: bpal
