Halloween BPAL update is up! Yay!

Here's what I have my eye on this year:

Bite Me: Croquembouche with almond silk and a drizzle of caramel.

Lambs-wool: A popular holy day beverage in 18th century Ireland: roasted apples mashed into warmed milk and ale, with nutmeg, sugar, ginger, and clove.

Suck it: Black cherry brandy.

Pumpkin Patch 2009:
Pumpkin Patch I:
Pumpkin, almond, brown musk, and honey.
Pumpkin Patch V: Pumpkin, chocolate, coffee bean, vanilla bean, and hazelnut.

and maybe:

Feeding the Dead: A barrel of beer, a pyramid of cakes, and three sticks of incense.

Pomona: Azaroles, nuts, and apple blossoms with red apple pulp, mulberry, blackberry, and pomegranate juice.

There about 6 things I'm definitely going to try. Two of them I may end up with more than one bottle. We'll see. There are a couple more I'd like to smell but not enough to buy a whole bottle since I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to wear them.
cut for length )

I really need to sell some of the stuff I don't want. I have a lot of LEs that I could get photos and descriptions of if anyone had an interest. Ebaying is so iffy and I'm intimidated by the bpal boards. Which is why I still have most of it.

The Halloween update is up!

Here are the things that interest me:

ALL SOULS 2007
A day of remembrance and intercession. Without the prayers and sacrifices of their families and loved ones, the faithful departed may not be cleansed of their venal sins, and thereby cannot attain beatific vision. On November 2nd, prayers are sung and offerings are made to aid lost souls in transcending purgatory. An incense blend that invokes the higher qualities of mercy and compassion, mingled with the soft, sugared currant scent of offertory soul cakes.

THE PERILOUS PARLOR
A memory of pleasure passed. A ghostly rendezvous, delight beyond death. Faint echoes of laughter and the distorted music of a harp drift by, along with the scent of soft white pear and sweet vanilla.

Pumpkins are available individually! There is a new patch.

PUMPKIN I
Pumpkin with pear, white wine grapes, and jasmine-laced tea.

PUMPKIN III
Pumpkin with white chocolate, caramel, pomegranate, and cream.

PUMPKIN V
Pumpkin with benzoin, bourbon vanilla, lemon peel, neroli, blood orange, and red ginger.

SCHRODINGER'S CAT
One can even set up quite ridiculous cases. A cat is penned up in a steel chamber, along with the following diabolical device (which must be secured against direct interference by the cat): in a Geiger counter there is a tiny bit of radioactive substance, so small that perhaps in the course of one hour one of the atoms decays, but also, with equal probability, perhaps none; if it happens, the counter tube discharges and through a relay releases a hammer which shatters a small flask of hydrocyanic acid. If one has left this entire system to itself for an hour, one would say that the cat still lives if meanwhile no atom has decayed. The first atomic decay would have poisoned it. The Psi function for the entire system would express this by having in it the living and the dead cat (pardon the expression) mixed or smeared out in equal parts. It is typical of these cases that an indeterminacy originally restricted to the atomic domain becomes transformed into macroscopic indeterminacy, which can then be resolved by direct observation. That prevents us from so naively accepting as valid a "blurred model" for representing reality. In itself it would not embody anything unclear or contradictory. There is a difference between a shaky or out-of-focus photograph and a snapshot of clouds and fog banks.

A paradoxical scent experiment! – tangerine, sugared lime, pink grapefruit, oakmoss, lavender, zdravetz, and chocolate peppermint.

No cats were mistreated during the formulation of this paradox, or in the process of creating this perfume.

Finally going to start listing on ebay. I figure I'll put the list here first.

Imps are 1/32 oz. I'm selling them for $2.25 each, $1.50 shipping no matter how many you buy. Paypal is good. Comment or email if you're interested. I have them alphabetically and included bpal's descriptions. Some of the descriptions run longer than others. To make it easier to see what's what, I bolded the titles and crossed out the sold stuff.

Added one more imp (nyarlathotep) to the list of bpal imps I'm selling. That should be it now. I'm lazy so I'm going to give it a few days still before I think about putting anythign up on ebay. I won't be sad if I don't need to ebay them.

I did another update to the list of bpal imps I'm selling. I added Ogun. This week I'm trying, individually, those that were in my keep pile from my last order. So far I changed my mind on two of them. I still have a few more to get through.

I'm tired and I really wish I could get a nap. I need to take one of the kitties to the vet for my grandma. His appointment is at 3.

I forgot to turn my alarm on last night so this morning I woke up half an hour later than I should have. So I was a little rushed and late this morning.

My bird is growing up. We're looking for a rehabber in the area cause it seems it's about time for him to be off doing real bird things.

I added "Eat Me" to the list of imps I'm selling.

The fewer I have to end up ebaying, the better. This is faster and much less time consuming!

I have a ton of imps that are in my go pile. I'll be ebaying them but I figured I'd put them up here first for anyone who might be interested. Almost all of them tested once or twice. $2.25 each, $1.50 shipping no matter how many you buy. Paypal is good. Comment or email if you're interested. I have them alphabetically and included bpal's descriptions.

Initially: Chocolate and alcohol. Like Chocolate rum maybe? and something a little dusty. Softens to something... kind of sweet but not overly. Mary said it reminds her of a country store. I think still a little dusty. Something sort of fruity but ot sharp fruit. Light and mellow. The chocolate smell might still be there but it blends well enough that it doesn't stand out.

Another that ended up smelling like some sort of cleaning fluid. So sad. Sell pile.

BPAL says: The Four Hundred divine rabbits of the Aztec pantheon that preside over parties and drunkenness. Bittersweet Mexican cocoa with rum, red wine, and a scent redolent of sacrificial blood.

Initially: somehing sharp, almost citrus. Almost that old perfume smell. Almost spicy. Or maybe all of these things combined. It makes me think of Lush's Karma. But I'm not sure if it jsut makes me think of it or if there is some similarity.

Later some flower scent peeks through. This seems liek somehting that could go powdery on me as it fades. Might not but it seems like it would have the potential. That's what it's reminding me of right now only not faded. Some sort of body powder. Like what my grandma uses. Or used to use. I dont think that's a positive thing. But I'm torn between thata nd flowers and the flower smell is nice. Like some sort of warm climate flower. The kind that warm humid air would carry the scent of well.

What BPAL says: Evokes sheer, unadulterated carnal lust. An undeniably warm and sensual scent. Black narcissus, orange blossoms, and vanilla.

Initially, coconut rum and some sort of sweet syrup. Then went almost instantly... perfume-y I dont know how to describe that. It's almost a flower ish scent. Maybe somehting like coconut and some sort of white flower or planty smell. something kind of fresh and clean.

It reminds me of somehting but I'm not sure what. It has the same coconut that Lush stuff does (like coolaulin but this is a definitely sweeter something in addition to the coconut than coolaulin has). This seems like osmething that woudl be nice to use when I was on a coconut streak in the shower- trichomania, coolaulion, I shoudl coco and then this when I come out. Would be nice I think.

So far, I think this goes in the keep pile.

BPAL says: The Spirit of the Divine Messenger, the Lord of the Crossroads, He Who Owns All Doors and Roads in this World. He is the intermediary between the Orishas and mankind, and stands at the intersection of humanity and the Divine. He opens all paths of communication, both mundane and Heavenly. His ofrenda contains coconut, tobacco and sweet, sugared rum.

Initially:
Some sort of spiced fruit dessert. Peach or apple (the site description says apricot so that's likely to be it). Not heavy spice. Just slight.
As is sits the spice comes out a bit more and you can smell a bit of clove. It's more of an equal mixture. It kind of reminds me of an air freshener. I don't know if that's a good thing though.

Smells similar to Jack on me.

bpal says: A twisted teatime tart: apricot and sweet clove.

Initially: Rose. I've never really liked smelling like rose so this might not stay in the keep pile. Unless, of course, it does bring me good luck and happiness.

Something about rose scents always makes me think of old women.

No good luck, no happiness: sell pile

bpal says: Brings a rush of good luck, lifts the spirit, and helps alleviate depression.

Started out smelling like cherry, maybe a little chocolate... then turned heavily to... cleaning fluid of some sort. Maybe Lysol? It was something familiar but I can't quite think of what it is. Not good anyway.

straight to the sell pile.

bpal says:
Voluptuous and indulgent! A deep chocolate scent, with black cherry and orange blossom.

Initially - chocolate and leather. Then it starts to have a touch of that... old icky perfume smell that some of them seem to have on me. I don't have a good description for what that means exactly. I might be imagining it on this one though. It has a sharp smell. The chocolate is definitely underneath it. As though the room is filled with leather and wood and dirt... and in there is this tiniest hint of chocolate hidden somewhere.

I think I would like to smell this on a guy.

bpal says:Lord of the Smoking Mirror, god of sorcery, nighttime, darkness, beauty, war, heroic men, beautiful women, and all material concerns. Tezcatlipoca is the Master Magician, a trickster god and shapeshifter, governing all worldly matters, and is also the Great Tempter, seducing men into evil acts and subsequently punishing them for their transgressions. Deep cocoa laced with patchouli, leather armor, ritual incense, and a touch of Xochiquetzal’s flowers.

Initially- buttery fruit. Almost like a punch smell. Maybe a light spice smell. Buttery smell starts to fade quickly and the fruity smell is stronger. Starts fading to a sweet slightly spicy peach. Not at all unpleasant. I'm not usually into the fruit smells but this has a sweet slight butteryness to it that helps.
It reminds me of a warm peach pie.

I may have to try it again to decide if it's a keeper but for now it's going in the stay pile.

bpal says: The scent of warm, glowing jack o'lanterns on a warm autumn night: true Halloween pumpkin, spiced with nutmeg, glowing peach and murky clove.

Initially:

Sweet sweet sweet buttery-ish vanilla. Reminds me a little of frosting. Very sweet. Not like the warm darker vanilla scent I seem to usually favor. Sweet is good though.

Starts to fade quickly but I wonder if that's because I'm cold at the moment and my skin is dry because I washed off what I was wearing earlier in order to test new stuff.

bpal says it's affectionately nicknamed 'The Devil's Bake Sale'

Initially:

Something sweet. Almost fruity, almost floral... almost like some sort of honey milk hand soap.

The bpal description makes it sound like it would be buttery and desserty... but I'm not getting that at all so far. That's a little disappointing.
The fruity flowery thign isn't a bad thing. I just dont get too much into smelling like either.

from the BPAL site:
A soft, sensual, luxuriant blend with a wicked bite: hazelnut, buttercream, honey mead, rum and sweet almond.

This is going in my sell pile.

I will try these today, one on one wrist, one on the other

Suspiro
Initially: Floral, nice. I don't know my flowers that well, aside from flowers I know I like. These are flowers I'd like to smell though! I think, at least so far, that if I wanted to smell like flowers... this would be a good bouquet to smell like.

I think flower scents of the perfumy sort tend to make me think of old ladies. I dont know if I want to smell like something that reminds me of an old lady. It is a nice small though and I keep coming back to my wrist, partly to see if it has changed yet and partly because it is nice to smell.

It's starting to fade to a slightly powdery smell. I think I noticed this with the other florals too. Initially it's nice but it's that slightly dusty powdery smell that bothers me a little.

This scent starts to fade fairly quickly I think but it's not fading too powdery. It's retaining the flower scent that I'm liking and it's just soft and kind of what I would think of as lady-like. It's something I'd imagine wearing in the day time dressed nicely and going out for lunch or tea or something. Not that that's necessarily me.

Fades to a nice, soft floral. Not a bad thing. I think I'll have to get more opinions before I decide if I'll keep it.

Final thoughts: This faded pretty quickly and I don't know if I want enough to smell like pretty flowers to bother keeping it. Chances are that if I dont absolutely love it I will not wear it. It's going in the sell pile.

From the bpal site:
A Latin word that means to sigh or draw a deep breath, that also suggests longing, desire, yearning, and a passionate wish. Ylang ylang with white plum, white orchid, jasmine, calla lily and lily of the valley.

Jester

Initially: I really like this. It smells very fruity. Like Koolaid Powder. The unsweetened kind. Perhaps Unsweetened Incrediberry Koolaid Powder. Maybe this wouldn't be appealing so much to others but I really think its nice!

Maybe also reminds me of some sort of fruit hard candy or some sort of sour flavored Bubblicious. nothing bubble gummy in scent but one of those sour flavors that just has bubble gum as its base but doesnt taste of it.

Softens a little as it starts to warm. Keeps the same scent though.

Fades to the same scent only lighter. It's rare for a scent to stay the same all the way through on me. This one seems to have though. I believe I'll keep it.

from the bpal site:
Huckleberry and red currant with the incisive bite of neroli.

ok my bpal girlies (and guys?)

what can you recommend that's sweet and foody, I'm not as big on the cinnamon smells so much but I don't hate them. Mostly just sweet. I'm ordering a bottle of Sugar Cookie and a bottle of Gluttony (which I tried in an imp on my last order and just totally fell in love with). And I think I'm going to request an imp of Bliss.

The sweeter the better. I like to smell like things I would like to eat. Though I will admit that Lush's pink creamy candy scented stuff sickens me. I seriously almost gagged when I smelled the Snow Fairy shower gel. Blech.

ETA a comment I left in reply to a comment of ophelia's:

I like vanilla (my main 'me' scent is a vanilla bean oil from global scents that I get from the renaissance festival every year that smells like vanilla and incense to me), chocolate, coffee, hazelnut, buttery creamy scents, frosting, cookies, cake, caramel, butterscotch, incense and things that smell like baked good variations on those.

I also love the smell of Lush's Honey I Washed the Kids/Soft Coeur/Honey Bee/Ma Bar

Foody and sweet but more the sickly vanilla-choco-caramel-butter-nuts variety
Come to think of it, that's what I like to eat too!

Initially it's sweet, I smell a little somehting vanilla-y and... almond? something that's making me think of almond anyway. After its just sat on my skin, its the same, but the incensy smell starts to come through too. And that initial almondy smell seems to fade.

There is almost something that smells like a hint of rose mixed with the vanilla, which is much stronger.
I've taken a shower and definitely washed off all traces of the earlier Endymion.

It ended smelling dusty and sweet. Another one that doesn't smell bad, I just don't know if I wasnt to smell like it.

The site description: "The scent of sexual obsession, slavery to sensual pleasure, and the
undercurrent of innocence defiled utterly. Amber and honey with a touch of
vanilla."

Endymion
In the bottle and initially on the skin this smells totally of roses. Right after its on my skin it smells of roses still with some pear, very similar to the Victoria's Secret pear scent. It's sweet floral but I worry since it smells pretty strongly of rose, rose stuff usually ends up smelling like soap on me.

Later it smells like something I don't know. Sweet, dusty, flowery... but not a flower scent that I recognize. Almost a hint of baby powder. I dont know if I like it. It's not *bad* I guess... it's more that I don't know if I'd like to smell like it.

The site description: "Selune, the Moon Goddess, fell in love with a beautiful shepherd named
Endymion. She appealed to Zeus, asking him to cast Endymion into everlasting
slumber so that she could be with him for all eternity. Her wish was
granted, and every night the Goddess visited her love as he slept. A sweet,
wistful blend of d'Anjou pear, Lily of the Valley, bois du rose and white
musk."

Also, my notes on the Gluttony yesterday:

Incensy and sweet from start to finish. Starts out smelling like the hazelnut coffee I buy (+incense), then smells a little like cinnamon apple (+incense) and ends smelling like chocolate (+incense). I really dig it.

The site description: "Thick, sugared and bloated with sweetness. Dark chocolate, vanilla, buttercream, and hops with pralines, hazelnut, toffee and caramel."
