I am not as excited about my cake as I hoped to be. Alas, the butter that I mixed with the brown sugar that tasted so, so good on its own did not lend as perfect a flavor to the top of the cake. It doesn't taste *bad*, it's just that it doesn't go together somehow. Not to me anyway. I'll have to figure out something to do differently next time. I am determined to make this work out well. I want a cake I can enter into contests!

What kind of cake? Were you trying to go for something like an upside down cake? Coz that usually has a little cream and some vanilla and salt with the brown sugar and butter. So does a little bit of citrus zest, but of course, how well that works would depend on the cake flavoring.

It is like an upside down cake, only it's a bundt cake. It's a modified version of the Desperaton Dinners' "Darn Good Chocolate Cake" recipe. It's not chocolate, though the original recipe is, as you might guess. The first time I made it this way, without the pineapple on top, I thought hey! this tastes like a pineapple upside down cake without the pineapple! So I thought next time I got around to it, I'd make it with pineapple on the bottom (which becomes the top). Unfortunately, the pineapple sticks and when the rest of the cake comes out nice and clean, I have to dig out yummy pineapple bits to stick back on the cake.

So the real question is: How do you get pineapple to not stick to the pan??

I haven't done a pineapple upside down cake in a loooong time, but I made a pear upside down cake not too long ago. The pears didn't stick, but I use a springform pan to make upside down cakes with, and I lined the spring form with parchment paper, and sprayed the parchment with a bit of pam.

So I'm thinking its's probably the bundt pan that's giving me the issues. Maybe I won't be able to get it to be completely unsticky...
